Okay, so Black Sails is pretty awesome (sans the sex) and it's got me hankering for more pirate pieces to play. Can y'all recommend any good 'uns? And the first person to suggest a Pirates of the Caribbean movie is going forever on my shit list.

Over all, it's really good. I just don't dig the gratuitous sex. I like virtually every character, but there's one that just isn't fit for the role and it's clear why (sexism).

Over all, it's really good though.

I'm definitely going to find out what it takes to get this network. I can probably swap out Showtime for Starz at the same price. There is nothing on Showtime that I want to watch right now anyhow.

Seems like the show has some flaws but is entertaining. That's good enough for me. I much prefer the TV series on the premium networks to movies right now. You get the best of both worlds as there are no commercials and no limits on what can be shown. And the writers can get into the characters in much more detail than they can in a movie.

So I called DirecTV last night and found out that I already had Starz and one other movie channel that I didn't know I had.

I cut out 2 that I didn't need and kept Starz and HBO.

So you saved me $18 and I'm watching Black Sails. Already downloaded the first two episodes from On Demand and got though the first one and half of the 2nd.

You reminded me about the show. I had seen one commercial but totally forgot about it. Had I not seen your post I probably would have kept paying $18 more for months and months and not even watched the show!

I had forgotten that I was still on my initial package deal. I thought I had rolled it back to just a couple premium channels after the first 6 months was up but of course I forgot...

Serenity? Most pirate shows are seriously lacking production value because the props are crazy expensive and rare. Then add to that the required skill to operate the craft, the perils of shooting in ocean, (Waterworld) and you get relatively few shows to choose from versus say a western. Good luck. They did just remake Treasure Island and it's on netflix. It's not terrible but that's about the highest praise I could muster for it. My favorite pirate movie is definitely the featurette from Monty Python's The Meaning of Life. If that's not a great pirate movie I dunno what is.
